South Korea wetlands, Saemangeum update

Who could have foreseen the impacts of this project which I described in my first post on April 1, 2006:

South Korea's "reclamation" of thousands of acres of wetlands has had a devastating impact to wading birds migrating through the area, including 2 endangered species. The truth is this was foreseen by any scientist or bird lover, and probably any businessman and government official involved in the project. Thank God we have an Endangered Species Act in this country, as flawed as it may be. We must act to keep it as strong as possible to avoid such idiocy as this project from occurring here. We must also recognize that species do not recognize our man made geopolitical borders and must do what we can to influence other governments to recognize the importance of natural habitats and biodiversity worldwide.
