Assault on drinking water supply waterways in Georgia

I urge all Georgians who drink water to write a comment to the state EPD at epdcomments@dnr.state.ga.us

Here is my letter:

Dear EPD official,
The current regulation which enforces a 150 foot buffer around water supply waterways is a valuable and well considered law. Once the spigot is open to development within this buffer there is no turning back, and the quality of our drinking water is sure to suffer. I know of no one on a septic system for any length of time who has not had problems eventually, and a 150' buffer is the minimum I want between my drinking water and their septic tank problem. Likewise I do not want runoff from their vehicles, fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides and other likely contaminants entering my drinking water supply. Landowners (especially developers who knowingly purchase their land with public drinking supply waterways on their properties) are not losing use of their properties, but have a responsibility to the community to maintain this water supply in the most pristine condition possible, by leaving it and an adequate buffer intact.
